GTA 6 Robbery System: Safes, Scouting and Planning
Almost any store in GTA 6 can be robbed, but safe codes, security cameras and the getaway all matter more than they used to.
Small time robbery in GTA 6 is reported to be far more open ended than the scripted store jobs from GTA 5, according to a hands-on Rockstar North preview. Almost anywhere you can walk in, you can rob, and the details of the job change every time.
Any store, not just the marked ones
Lower end stores are not flagged with a robbery icon; they just look like normal shops, but a preview confirmed you can decide to rob one while simply browsing. Bigger locations, including banks, jewellery stores, payday loan places and criminal compounds, can show a potential payout on the map, which helps with deciding where a job is actually worth the risk.
Getting into a safe
Many robberies come down to a safe in a back room, and there is more than one way to open one, reported from separate preview sessions: a fence texting you a code, finding the code somewhere in the store itself, or simply blowing the safe open. Blowing it is faster but damages the loot inside, so it is a straight trade between speed and payout.
Security and getting noticed
Store security is reported to matter more too: destroying a camera stops it recording locally, but some stores store footage in the cloud, which a camera smash cannot undo. Staff and even customers can also try to intervene, rushing you or reaching for their own weapon if they see an opening, so a robbery is not a guaranteed one-sided event.
What you bring matters
Loot has to physically leave the location in a duffel bag, and duffel bag capacity is limited, so the vehicle you bring affects how much you can actually take: a bike is faster to escape on, a van or truck can carry more bags. This connects directly to the wanted and heat system, since getting spotted mid robbery starts that clock immediately. Loot still has to be sold through a fence, and the split between cash and loot is explained in how the money system works. For the bigger jobs, see GTA 6 heists explained.
